Voting is underway in the Central African Republic in delayed presidential and parliamentary elections.
Thirty candidates are hoping to replace interim leader CATHERINE SAMBA-PANZA in the elections that aim to restore a stable government after years of sectarian conflict.United Nations peacekeepers are providing security for the polls, and are hoping to avoid a repeat of the violence that greeted a constitutional referendum three weeks ago.Two of the candidates - MARTIN ZIGUELE and ANICET DOLOGUELE – ad served as prime ministers under late President ANGE-FELIX PATASSE.
The third frontline candidate, KARIM MECKASSOUA, is a Muslim who served as a minister under President FRANCOIS BOZIZE until he was ousted in 2013 by Seleka rebels.
