Residents of Unity Estate at Enika community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area are counting their losses following the demolition of their houses by agents of the Rivers State Government.

Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR visited the site after the demolition on Saturday and reports that dozens of families have been left homeless as a result of the action.

One of the victims who gave his name as RONALD PEPPLE said he lost everything he owned in the demolition.

PEPPLE also wandered why such action was taken against them, since there was no warning and no information about government’s link to the land.

On his part; another building owner in the demolished estate, GABRIEL OLUWAROTIMI wandered how the Rivers State Government would claim ownership of the land after granting approval for them to build in the area.

The Eneka Unity Estate land owners are demanding compensation from the Rivers State Government, while the Commissioner for Urban and Regional planning, CHINYERE IGWE has not been forthcoming with any explanation.
