Corona Virus cases in Africa; the numbers as Nigeria records 20 new cases

Just last night, Nigeria confirmed 20 new cases of Corona Virus disease in the country, taking the total number of confirmed positive cases to 210. 

This was announced by the National Center for Disease control (NCDC) in its official twitter handle. 

NCDC wrote; 

"Twenty new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 11 in Lagos, 3 in the FCT, 3 in Edo, 2 in Osun & 1 in Ondo

 

Two new deaths have been recorded in Lagos and Edo State

 

As at 10:30 pm 3rd April there are 210 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria." 

 

While the number is increasing in the country, our correspondent, Reliance Udoenyin takes a look at the numbers on the continent of Africa.

According to worldometer, as of Saturday morning, 50 countries in Africa have recorded positive cases of Covid-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases on the continent to 7,993. 

While Comoros, Lesotho, Sao Tome and Principe, South Sudan are yet to record a single case, within the week, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Burundi and Bostwana announced their index cases of the virus disease. 

In the leadership scoreboard, South Africa tops the chart of countries in the continent where higher numbers of positive cases have been reported. The breakdown shows that;

South Africa has 1,505 cases

Algeria ---- 1,171 cases

Egypt ---- 985 cases 

Morocco ---- 791 cases

Cameroon ---- 509 cases 

Tunisia ---- 495 cases 

Burkina Faso ---- 302 cases 

Cote D'Ivoire ---- 218 cases 

Nigeria ---- 210 cases 

Senegal ---- 207 cases 

Ghana ---- 205 cases 

Mauritius ---- 196 and 

DRC ---- 148

 

Thus far, there are 1,133,453 cases reported worldwide with 60, 318 deaths and 236,000 recovered patients.
